Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What are the requirements to enter The Language Academy’s pathway courses?
- You must be at the minimum English Level (or above) required to enter one of the pathway courses
- Take the Placement Test prior to enrolling in any of the pathway courses (Applies to ALL students, regardless of your English level or your previous studies at other institutions)
- Enrol in a pathway course for minimum 12 consecutive weeks (no breaks in between)
Q: Can I enrol in a pathway course after I complete my General English Course at The Language Academy?
A: Yes, you can as long as you meet the required English level to enter the pathway course. Your English level will be assessed prior to being accepted in the pathway course, even after completing your General English Course or other courses at The Language Academy
Q: Can I enrol in a pathway course in combination with other courses? For example: General English + one of the pathway courses.
A: Yes, you can but you need to make sure that the number of weeks of the General English course is sufficient to help you learn/improve your English skills in order to meet the Entry Level Required for the pathway course.
Q: If I enrol in a General English Course and a pathway course at the same time, would I need to take the placement test for the General English Course and the Placement Test for the Pathway course on the same day?
A: No, if you combine a General English Course with a Pathway course, you will receive a conditional Letter of Offer for the pathway course and your entry to the pathway course will be confirmed after you have met the English level required for the pathway course. In order to confirm your entry to the pathway course you will be required to take the placement test for the pathway course close to the end of your General English Course. On account of the high-stakes nature of this academic pathway, all students will be tested and interviewed before starting one of The Language Academy pathway courses to ensure they meet the above entry requirements.
Q: What happens if after I finish my General English Course I still don’t meet the required English level to enter the pathway course?
A: If you don’t meet the required English Level for the pathway course even after the completion of your General English course, you will not be accepted to enter the pathway course and your conditional Letter of Offer for the Pathway course will be cancelled.
Q: Is it possible to re-take the placement test to enter the pathway course, if I don’t pass it?
A: Yes you can re-take the test one more time.
Q: What happens if I don’t meet the English Level required even after I re-take the placement test and my conditional Letter of Offer for the Pathway course gets cancelled?
A: If your conditional Letter of Offer gets cancelled due to your English level, you will be required to continue your studies in the General English Course for the same number of weeks of your enrolment of the pathway course. You will need to talk to your agent (if you have one) or TAFE Queensland regarding your TAFE course, if you have enrolled with them in advance. TAFE Queensland will not accept a student from The Language Academy without the Pathway Referral Letter to TAFE Queensland.
Q: What happens if after I complete my pathway course I don’t meet one or some of the 4 standards above and the pathway is not granted?
A: There are no exceptions made for students who do not meet the four key standards. While it may be possible to take additional weeks of English study (in the same pathway course – if available), this has the potential to disrupt a student’s TAFE course start date. Due to the popularity and high number of enrolments in certain courses, it may not be possible to simply join the next term/semester intake.
Q: Do I have to take an English test at TAFE Queensland, such as the IELTS Test after The Language Academy has granted my pathway to TAFE Queensland?
A: No, you will not be required to take an official test at TAFE Queensland prior to starting your TAFE course. However, TAFE Queensland reserves the right to interview and or ‘spot-test’ students at any time before they start their courses or during their studies.
