Tim's student review of our night course

Tim - Spanish Student - The Language Academy

We check in with Tim who is currently studying a Spanish course which takes place in the evening at The Language Academy.

Course language: Spanish
Course length: Level 4 (10 weeks)
Fun fact: Recently travelled to Mexico and Guatemala and volunteered in an orphanage.

🅠 What is your favourite thing about studying at The Language Academy?

Ⓐ “I love how it’s really engaging. The teachers make you speak and ask you questions, it’s interactive in that way. I also like how they always encourage us to join other classes and and activities, it keeps pushing us forward.”

🅠 What has been your biggest challenge while studying Spanish?

Ⓐ “I struggle with the speaking side of things, as I only speak it here at school. Outside of the classroom I don’t have that much of a chance to practice with someone. I only know a few Spanish people, but don’t see them that often. I think that would have to be my toughest challenge, consistently trying to speak Spanish outside of school.”

🅠 What has improved the most?

Ⓐ “My grammar side of things and my pronunciation. My listening skills have also definitely improved. It improves with very class I go to. I can do a lot of listening stuff at home, for example movies in Spanish; I think it requires the least amount of effort [laughing].

I can watch movies in Spanish and put English subtitles on, or if i can understand the context of the movie, I’ll play it in Spanish with Spanish subtitles, so I can read and learn. I also pump the Colombian music [laughing].”

🅠 What was it like studying a night course?

Ⓐ “I work in a hotel, so my hours do change quite a bit, and I found it worked in quite well with my work schedule. Pablo has been very accommodating. If I can’t make it to class because of work, my teacher sends me the homework so I can keep up.

The courses and times at night have been really helpful for me.”

🅠 How has this course prepared you for the future?

Ⓐ “I’m planning to move over and live in either South or Central America. Most likely Mexico, a place call Sayulita or Puerto Vallarta. Those places are both really well-known for surfing. I think I’ll go travel there first next year, then move over in future and do some volunteering in South America.”
